防火,防水 – Fireproof,waterproof.
Hi everyone,
This week I went to Bunnings and I saw a brochure there on “D.I.Y Child-proof a home”. – DIY stands for Do it Yourself. But what does “child-proof” mean?
In English, when we want to prevent something or someone from doing something,we ” proof” it.
For example – fireproof – to make something so it will not burn
soundproof – make something so you cannot hear sound eg soundproof room –
waterproof – make something that won’t be harmed by water
Child-proof – make it safe for children
Possum-proof – make a place so Possums can’t get in – such as inside your roof. ( Bunnings has a DIY on this subject too)
What about foolproof? – this means that nothing can go wrong with whatever it is.
Australia had a very unique structure like nothing anywhere in the world – The Rabbit-proof fence.A fence designed to keep rabbits in a certain area of Australia.
Try and read this sign.
Good luck with studying english – keep going you’re doing well.
Would you like to practice writing?
Here’s some homework – write about yourself, answering the questions. I have put my example of my own answers.
