饲料 Forage – From the aeroplane
Hi everyone –
It’s amazing what words you learn when you take a Domestic flight here in Australia. Last week the airline cabin crew handed out these bags of nuts –
The interesting word is ” forager” – by a company called Wallaby.
Animals like wallabies,”forage” for food – hence the use of the word on the packet. This verb ” to forage” is more commonly used than forage as a noun.
If children go to a Zoo,the zoo keepers would use the word forage when talking about how the animals look for food on the ground.
A synonym for forage would be “rummage”.
We use rummage when we are searching for something amongst a lot of things – eg rummage through drawers looking for socks – and use forage when searching for food
eg The wallaby was foraging through the grass and tree bark for something to eat.
I’ll see what new words pop up next time I fly,
Bye,
Peter
