魔笛 -The Magic Flute 1791

Hi everyone.

Today we will talk about music. – Today when we talk to our children,they all know about “genre” – the types of music. For example Classical, Pop ( = popular), Jazz, vocal  etc.

In pop music,there are songs,but in Classical Opera they don’t have songs – they have “arias”

The Magic Flute is one of the most famous operas – Composed by Mozart,it was first performed in Vienna in 1791. “The Queen of the Night” aria is one of the most famous arias in the entire Operatic repetoir.

When talking about something ,answer the questions – How…… ,what……..,why………,when…….. and where……….? These will get you started.

So when watching this singing of the Queen of the Night Aria, ask yourself questions such as  “How does a person sing such high notes?”  and then answer the question,

or – “What language is she singing in?”   etc Make up questions so you can practice your english expression.

Maybe write sentences describing your feelings as you listen to the singing. Maybe write down your thoughts in your own language then translate them into English.

Make a word map for the video – Singing an Aria – singer, accompanist, grand piano, soprano, high pitch, loud, soft, expression. etc.
