身体很好 Fit as a Fiddle

Hi everyone,

Today we look at a very unusual  Nursery Rhyme and the expression ” Fit as a fiddle”

Nursery Rhymes are tunes which young children sing – often the words are meaningless – because they sing them as they skip with a skipping rope,or they are just nice melodies.

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO ‘HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE THE CAT AND THE FIDDLE….’ You only need to play the beginning of it to get the idea.

A fiddle is a violin or a cello.

Everybody knows this nursery rhyme, and in Hobart Tasmania they have a shopping arcade called “The Cat and the Fiddle Arcade”

On the wall of the arcade is the cat, playing a cello/fiddle and a moon.At certain times there is a cow that flies over the moon! -= just like in the nursery rhyme.

Because everyone knows this nursery rhyme, when a person talks about a cat and a fiddle – people can complete the sentence.

I think violin and fiddle are the same. But there is an expression used to express good health, and that is ” as fit as a fiddle”

If the doctor asks how you are,You can say ” I’ve never felt better.I feel fit as a fiddle” – and the doctor knows exactly that you feel very well.

To remember the expression ” Fit as a Fiddle” you can watch this French Jazz group singing a song from the 1930’s called “Fit as a Fiddle”CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT.
